Job Duties and Responsibilities

The Mobile Applications Development team designs and develops Apple and Android applications for a broad array of the most popular mobile phones and tablets.  It is a tightly woven team of self-motivated developers that focuses on face-to-face interaction to meet daily work challenges. DISH’s Mobile App Development team develops apps for DISH customers, employees, sales staff, installers and retail partners.


Primary responsibilities fall into the following categories:


  • Participation in regular logical design sessions with the rest of the Mobile Application Development team
  • Gathering requirements from project sponsors and refining them over time as necessary
  • Writing Android phone and tablet applications and components—using Java, JavaScript, REST, SQL, HTML, SOAP/ XML, Maven/Ant/Gradle Script and ADB tools—that satisfy business requirements and conform to team visual, logical and architectural standards, committing code to GitLab/Subversion repositories and integrating team members’ code as needed
  • Regularly communicating progress to teammates, manager and other stakeholders and documenting logic and techniques at the code level
  • Release regular Android builds to TQA and UAT teams and working with them to resolve code defects and customer-impacting issues
  • Handing off nightly tasks to off-shore team members

Skills - Experience and Requirements

A successful Mobile Application Developer will have the following:


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Android native application development with Java and the Android Development Environment, preferably using Android Studio and ADB tools
  • Proficiency in HTML, JavaScript and CSS
  • Familiarity with relational database concepts and light SQL programming experience with MSSQL and SQLite and Agile methodologies
  • Strong interpersonal skills; friendly, approachable and motivated with a strong work ethic and high degree of integrity
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience
