Job Duties and Responsibilities

  

Dish Technologies is looking for a dynamic System/Test Engineer to work in our Test, Support and Integration (TSI) Organization.  The ideal candidate will be responsible for various projects such as designing, deploying and maintaining DVB-S test systems, develop SOPs, review business requirements and partner with technical resources in the company to help design and develop test environments per organization needs, ensuring that quality is maintained at every step of the SDLC.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for designing, deploying, testing and maintaining STB test systems/simulators.
  • Analyze and provide satellite transport streams including authorization, software download and custom streams to various Dish teams based on their testing needs.
  • Perform system level troubleshooting required on stream players, modulators, up converters and stream multiplexor.
  • Understand and review business requirements and partner with technical resources in the company to help design and develop test architecture/environment per organization needs.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to troubleshoot RF spectrum and networking issues.
  • Participate in reviews and audits of product requirements, specifications, designs, code, related to the SDLC.
  • Assist in defining testing scope and test plan development.
  • Develop SOPs for test systems managed by the team.
  • Design, develop, perform and oversee STB testing including system integration and regression.
  • Evaluate test field issues and provide counter measures to prevent reoccurrences.
  • Evaluate tools used in test organization to ensure effective usability and enhancement.
  • Connect to cross-functional teams in order to impact and influence testability and the customer experience across the entire product organization.
  • Pro-actively analyze current processes, test coverage and suggest/ drive improvements; define processes as needed.
  • Participates in driving organization-wide quality and process initiatives.

Skills - Experience and Requirements

The successful System/Test Engineer will have:

 

  • BS Degree (CS, EE or CE) and 3 years of Software Test Engineering experience, or Masters and 2 years of Software Test Engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 1 yr of experience networking, including, installing, configuring, managing and maintaining networking equipment: Routers, Switches
  • At least 2 years of experience with some or all phases of testing: System Integration, Functional, Regression, and Exploratory/Ad Hoc testing.
  • At least 1 year of experience developing test plans, SOPs, test scenarios, test cases, execution of test case and documentation and interpretation of test results.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with STBs or experience in testing software products in telecommunication or digital media domain.
  • Understanding of MPEG analysis, video compression (MPEG, H.264 / AVC) and audio (MPEG, Dolby Digital, PCM etc.).
  • Knowledge of Linux Operating Systems.
  • Installing, configuring, managing and maintaining networking equipment: Routers, Switches.
  • Knowledge of RF signals, measurement techniques and tools such as spectrum analyzer, Oscilloscopes, signal meter, and digital multimeters.
  • Knowledge of RF modulation schemes and various frequency spectrums such as QAM, ATSC, L-band etc.
  • Ability to quickly troubleshoot problems, and analyze failures to minimize outages and service interruptions.
