Job Duties and Responsibilities

At DISH we provide a unique and fast paced environment where our employees have great opportunities to not only show off the skills they bring with them but learn and enhance new skills by learning new technologies.  Our SCM employees operate right at the heart of the IT department and play key roles in the building of products, as well as deploying the products to the test and production environments. 

Primary responsibilities fall into the following categories:

  • Code Maintenance – maintain the different code repositories and provide support as needed – Examples: Subversion, TFS, GIT, Artifactory
  • Scripting – Examples: Perl, Kshell, batch, Python, Jenkins, Chef
  • Production – The ability to produce and deploy code in a timely and error free manor
  • Communication skills – Work with Developers and PM’s to help them maintain their schedule.
  • Administration – Basic knowledge of UNIX, Linux, and Windows, administration
  • Manage IT change requests
  • Assess the impact, cost, benefit, and risk of proposed changes.
  • Maintain the proper balance between the need for change and the potential impact of changes.
  • Conduct Change Advisory Board Meetings
  • Responsible to ensure processes are followed by IT organization
  • Manage and coordinate change implementations
  • Create and automate executive level reports
  • Develop and implement process improvement strategies to increase the overall efficiency of IT changes
  • Assist in Root Cause Analysis of failed changes

Skills - Experience and Requirements

A successful Software Configuration Management (SCM) Analyst will have the following:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Continuous Deployment and Continuous Integration concepts
  • Strong customer service skills; friendly, approachable, motivated, with a strong work ethic.
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules including some weekends and or evenings as the work demands.
  • Willingness to be on a rotating on-call schedule
