    Job Duties and Responsibilities

    DISH Media Sales, the advertising sales division of DISH Network, provides smart and effective media solutions that complement those of traditional national cable, and is headquartered in New York, with offices in Chicago, Denver and Los Angeles.  We are an innovative, passionate and fun group working hard and finding reward in radically changing TV advertising.  

    The Media Sales Data & Analytics team works closely with the corporate DISH Viewer Measurement team to combine powerful household level reporting data, analytics and expertise that helps our sales staff succeed in a rapidly evolving environment.  Constructing automated processes through scripting languages, using data to identify and create models of an advertiser’s target audience, measuring the success of an advertiser’s campaign and providing visualization through self-service tools are just a few of the day to day tasks this team is responsible for.


    We are now seeking a seasoned Data Engineer that will lead new development efforts, take ownership of existing business processes and contribute constructive feedback in discussions with the business development or corporate IT teams.  This person is recognized as the subject matter expert for targeting and measurement operations behind Addressable TV campaigns and feels comfortable speaking with both external and internal clients.  The position is based in our New York City office and will report to the Senior Manager of the Data & Analytics team, leading a small team of data analysts who assist in maintaining the day-to-day business operations that run our core DISH and Sling business.


    The Data Engineer will support the Media Sales team and sales efforts through:


    • Building data pipelines that manage the ingest of campaign data and demographics
    • Designing ETL schemas and planning data architecture
    • Managing reporting dashboards, automation and resolving job failures
    • Writing clean code in Python and SQL queries in Netezza and Hive SQL.
    • Building relationships with the internal Sales team and data partners to provide end-to-end ops solutions
    • Coordinating development efforts with DISH IT, often taking the role of business stakeholder

    Skills - Experience and Requirements

    A successful Data Engineer will have the following:

    • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university, advanced degree in a STEM field is a plus.
    • 3+ years of data engineering or software development experience. Experience in an ad sales organization or marketing analytics role and familiar with the TV industry is a plus.
    • Excellent programming skills in Python & SQL, and Excellent presentation and communication skills.
    • Comfortable working in Unix environment with a basic knowledge of shell scripting.
    • Familiar with Hadoop Big Data concepts including Map Reduce. Experience with AWS is preferred.
    • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau and Excel.
    • Superior multi-tasking and organization skills, managing multiple projects to meet deadlines.
    • Strong work ethic; personable and must be able to prioritize tasks and deliverables.
    • Management experience preferred.
