    Job Duties and Responsibilities

    This Category Manager role is responsible for sourcing products, services, and vendors in the marketplace and soliciting bids and negotiating pricing and other applicable standards for the purchasing needs of a wide variety of categories and departments. Categories may include but are not limited to set-top box components; installation tools and components; fleet services and fuel; cleaning services; maintenance, repair, and operations products and services; software and licensing; IT-related hardware; uniforms and other apparel; marketing and promotional items; office supplies; paper, foam, and packaging; consumer electronics; metal (poles, antennas, etc.); and media and advertising.

     Primary responsibilities include:

    • Help build a “Spend Money Like it’s Your Own” culture within DISH to support strategic decision making and to increase business value, minimize Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), and improve Procurement Cycle Time
    • Work closely with the Procurement Forecasting/Planning, Analytics, Program Management, and Purchasing teams to support internal DISH customers in sourcing the right products at the right time and price
    • Work with departmental representatives to determine specific business needs, arrange for product demonstrations, and distribute feedback, evaluations, and samples
    • Consolidate spend to secure quantity price advantages, identify opportunities for both savings and profit, solicit formal bids in accordance with standard procedures and informal bids via telephone or personal contact, and analyze and negotiate price quotations
    • Process purchase requisitions and purchase orders (POs), compose and communicate product specifications, and coordinate distribution efforts throughout the DISH supply chain
    • Establish, maintain, and improve vendor relationships by following Procurement’s Vendor Management procedures, including vendor scorecarding and quarterly business reviews with key vendor along with helping develop various projects and programs in an evolving Procurement and Supply Chain organization
    • Ensure that all business transactions are moral and ethical and that activities are compliant to Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and other relevant regulatory program, some travel may be required, primarily related to vendor and factory visits or to visit DISH locations.

    Skills - Experience and Requirements

    A successful Category Manager will have the following: 

    • Bachelors Degree from an accredited college preferred and a minimum 2 years’ experience in commodity/category analysis, financial analysis, or related field
    • Knowledge of principles and practices of sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing, including ethics, Internet research, bid preparation and evaluation, and quality and inventory control
    • Interest in market and commodity research and techniques and a general understanding of contracts
    • Familiarity with basic office software (e.g. ERP systems including Oracle, database management, MS Office products including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio, and OneNote)
    • Ability to work independently to conduct studies, analyze and evaluate data, and make recommendations and decisions on complicated or high-profile projects
    • Proficiency in performing math calculations such as calculating fair market rates, interest, discounts, shipping charges, ROI, etc. and comfortable using and converting common units of measure
