    Job Duties and Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

     

    Engineering Tech I:

     

    • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and electronic issues to ensure test and manufacturing equipment is operating according to requirements and specifications. Some of the equipment includes manual test stations, high potency testers, scanners, automated test stations, among others.
    • Be able to interact with a proactive attitude and customer mindset when working with production associates, supervisors and coworkers from other areas or departments.
    • Ability to perform his/her daily duties following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Sequence of Events (SOE) and other related documentation.
    • Read and interpret schematic drawings, diagrams, blueprints, specifications and work orders to determine materials requirements or troubleshooting instructions or ensure compliance.
    • Be able to work on specific items with little to no supervision as well as being part of a crew or team.
    • Familiarity with 5S, TPM and other Lean Manufacturing techniques.
    • Assist other groups (IT, Maintenance, Facilities, Production) as required or instructed by supervisor
    • Physical ability to lift and move production equipment such as benches, racks, carts, cabling and computers.

     

     
    Additional requirements for Engineering Tech II Include the following:

     

    • Assists the group lead with work results; establishing priorities; monitoring progress; revising schedules; resolving problems; reporting results of the team on end of shift summaries.
    • Audits team member performance for quality, productivity and alignment with standards.
    • Supports the labor plan by filling in for missing personnel; accomplishing work results; driving established priorities; monitoring progress; resolving problems; reporting results to the shift supervisor.
    • Validates and provides input for trials and projects; implementing change.
    • Collect data to prepare time studies, reports, work instructions, visual aids and flowcharts
    • Assist with special engineering projects such as new product introduction, layout and/or process changes.
    • Other duties as required. This list is not meant to be a comprehensive inventory of all duties and responsibilities assigned to this position.
    • Uses knowledge of electronics, pneumatics, hydraulics, electro-mechanics, PLC based controls, and motor-drive control systems to design new equipment and systems and to solve production breakdowns.
    • Troubleshoots custom manufacturing equipment issues, assist in repair and maintenance projects as required.
    • Performs project duties as assigned by the engineer/project manager, including system concept and design, specification of the bill of materials, programming of various control (PLC) devices, and on-site start-up and commissioning.
    • Optimizes machine operation time, by minimizing downtime.
    • Responds to customer inquiries, requests, and complaints with urgency, and ensure resolution in a timely manner.
    • Demonstrates attention to detail, accuracy, and organization in the execution of job duties.
    • Promotes a cooperative work environment, follow company policies and procedures, and act in harmony with the company mission statement.
    • Reads, follows, and interprets electrical wiring diagrams and mechanical drawings.
    • Understands basics of programmable logic controllers (PLC's), pneumatics and components such as industrial communication devices, Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI's), sensors and instrumentation.
    • Understands the design, operation and application of DC control circuits.
    • Understands modern industrial networks (Ethernet) and communication protocols Modbus TCP, Ethernet/IP, ProfiNet, and legacy serial communications (RS232/485).
    • Demonstrates knowledge of Microsoft Office computer software and Windows operating systems, and general business productivity tools.
    • Writes with basic technical competence


     

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

     

     

    • Coaches staff with the support of the Engineering Group Lead.

     

    Skills - Experience and Requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS

     

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Position requires basic knowledge of time studies.

     

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

     

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and at least 12 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

     

    Associates Degree in electronics, mechanical or Technical school or service training beyond high school preferred.

     

    SKILLS

     

    Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos and instructional emails.  Need to be able to work alone and in groups. Ability to write simple correspondence and activity reports. Good communication skills, detail oriented with good organizational skills. Must know how to use a computer (Windows environment). Knowledge of Word, Excel, and Power Point 2007 and maintenance management software is a plus.

     

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

     

    Ability to calculate figures and amounts.  Ability to apply concepts of basic math and algebra.

     

    REASONING ABILITY

     

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

    Ability to deal with problems that involve several concrete variables in standardized situations.

    Ability to work under pressure.

     

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

     

    None required with required experience. PLC and Robotics training or certifications are desired.
