    Job Duties and Responsibilities

    We are looking for an innovative and passionate Senior Staff Software Developer to join an agile team of software engineers and bring value to market quickly.  This team uses the scaled agile methodology to create a developer-driven culture via ceremonies such as big room planning, demos, innovation days, and retrospectives.  This position is an opportunity for a creative developer to design, develop, and maintain software that will propel the digital TV and movie delivery industry into the future.  If you have a sense of adventure, take pride in writing great software, and strive to build the best products on the planet, we want you on our team here at Dish.


    Primary responsibilities fall into the following categories:

    • Develop scalable and distributed systems using one or more of the following languages:  Scala (or Elixir), Python or React/Javascript, Golang, on Linux/Docker around MySQL, Couchbase, and Cucumber.
    • Occasional support for existing solutions with a variety of technologies including Java, Perl, Scala, Clojure, Oracle and others.
    • Participate in Daily Scrum with an Agile Development Team and work with your Product Owner to write User Stories that ensure robustness, redundancy, and scalability.
    • Contribute to the Emergent Architecture by characterizing problems and identifying solutions.
    • Design and write software in a functional style combined with object-oriented techniques in test driven environment.
    • Promote teamwork and collaboration by participating in paired programming and code reviews.
    • Participate in retrospective discussions to help continuously improve our methods.
    • Innovate by enthusiastically participating in Innovation Day and patent harvesting activities.
    • Help identify and troubleshoot complex production issues in the customer-facing environment.

    Skills - Experience and Requirements

    A successful Senior Software Engineer will have the following:

     

    • B.S. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related technical degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • 8 -10 or more years of experience in software development using one or more of the following: Scala/Elixir, Java, Go (Golang), or Python in a Unix/Linux environment.
    • 3-5 or more years of experience working within an Agile software development life cycle.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • At least 3 years of experience with automated testing, Cucumber, Python's behave and unittest or similar.
    • At least 3 years of experience using NoSQL databases such as  Couchbase, MongoDB, Cassandra or similar.
    • At least 3 years of experience using Continuous Integration technologies such as Jenkins and Docker.
    • At least 1 year of experience building microservices.
    • At least 3 years of experience using version control repositories such as SVN or GIT.
    • Knowledge of computer network and application layer protocols.
